Panola Trio Taking Official Visits

While Omar Thomas and Panola College of Texas may have become synonymous, the Ponies have three other sophomores this spring who are getting Division I recruiting attention.
JUCO Junction spoke with Panola Head Coach Scott Monarch, and he gave us a run down on 5-10 sophomore point guard Gil Goodrich, 6-2 sophomore shooting guard Damien Smith and 6-8 power forward Marcus Lewis.

Goodrich, who plays with video game quickness at all times, averaged 12.6 points and 7.6 assists per game for the Ponies in 2002-2003. He visited Lamar last weekend (Apr. 11-13) and will trip to St. Mary's (CA)
next weekend (Apr. 25-27).
As for Smith, he was Panola's second leading scorer in 2002-2003, averaging 17.9 points per game. JUCO Junction liked his slashing and versatile scoring ability at the Region 14 Tournament last month in Pasadena, Tex.
Monarch said that Smith has visited Louisiana-Monroe and Centenary. He will visit Texas Southern (Apr. 18-20) this weekend.
As for the lanky Lewis, he averaged 2.2 points and five rebounds per game this season for Panola. While limited offensively, Lewis is more of a defender/rebounder type big man in the low post.
Lewis visited Alabama A&M last weekend and is also being looked at by Tennessee-Martin, Monarch said.
All three of the sophomores above plan on making spring decisions, and JUCO Junction will keep you posted when their commitments come down the pike.
