Point guard leads the way

Point guards are usually not leading scorers on basketball teams. One point guard in the deep south is having a great season in his new environment this season. Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, A.L. went under a coaching this summer and Lions current head coach John Meeks came on board from the Tar Heel State of North Carolina. Meeks coached last year at Louisburg College and decided to bring one of his own players with him in Marese Phelps.

Phelps is currently averaging 23 points per game this season for the Lions. The Lions lost former division one transfer Tre Lee at the break has he decided to transfer out to Howard University according to Meeks.
Lee played at Coastal Carolina University as a freshman last season. "Marese is a true point guard who has the ball on a string. He can really get to the basket along with being a lock-down defender," said Meeks.
Phelps has received interest from Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Savannah State, Wright State, Central Michigan, Georgia State and East Tennessee State University this season according to Meeks.
