Power forward looking at the Big 12

RedRaiderSports.com spoke with Santa Fe Community College assistant coach Stephen Cox on Monday night about power forward John Plefka. Cox indicated that he had sent film and called personal acquaintance Pat Knight, the Red Raiders' associate head coach, to alert Tech's staff about Plefka's abilities in the past week. It didn't take long for Plefka himself to hear from the Red Raiders.
"I actually talked to them (Monday)," Plefka said. "We had an introductory conversation and they are going to send me stuff in the mail and we'll see what happens. I'm interested."

Plefka is a 6-foot-9, 237-pound power forward from Santa Fe, in Gainesville, Fla. who has seen his stock rise considerably in recent weeks.
Plefka reports offers from the likes of Iowa State, Nebraska, Minnesota, Hawaii and Utah.
"I came to juco ball and it was harder for me," he told RedRaiderSports.com. "They are real up-tempo and athletic. I'm from up north and I like to set screens, pass and play defense; the little things. People tell me that my shot is the best part of my game."
Plefka averaged just more than nine points per game and five rebounds as a starter for Santa Fe CC. The team went 24-and-5 and was ranked as high as fourth in the country this season.
Plefka feels his style is a perfect fit for the Big 12, a conference he's followed for quite a while.
"I like that style of play and it's great to see these Big 12 schools are interested in me," Plefka said. "I watched a lot of those games this season."
Right now, Plefka has no official visits planned and he wants to see the campuses before making a decision. But he does have a favorite.
"Texas Tech is a little bit higher than everyone else right now," Plefka said. "It would be an honor to play for Coach Knight."
The late signing period opens on April 13th.
