Rams add to squad with a Mbang

The University of Rhode Island has dipped into the junior college ranks for its most recent hoops commitment. Monroe Community College forward Joe Mbang gave his oral nod to the Rams this week.
"He was on a visit two weeks ago and then he also visited St. Bonaventure," said head coach Jerry Burns. "He came back on Saturday or Sunday, we got together on Monday and then on Tuesday, I think he made his decision."

In addition to the Bonnies, Mbang had an offer from Charlotte and interest from schools such as Georgia, Purdue, UNLV and Colorado.
"He really liked the coaches," said Burns. "I think Jim Barron was really the deciding factor. Jim had recruited him from the start and he liked the facilities too...I just think it's the right level for Joe."
With recruiting now out of the way, Mbang turns his attention to his sophomore season.
"I expect him to have a great year," Burns said. "He should be the player of the year in our region. At 6-6, 230, he's the kind of guy that should be able to take over games."
Mbang led the Region in rebounding last season, but Burns would like to see him improve his shot selection this year.
