Redlands point guard makes his choice

For the second consecutive day, Redlands Community College has seen one of its players make a verbal commitment to a Division One school.
"Solomon HorseChief committed to the University of Pacific," Redlands coach Steve Eck informed JucoJunction. "It came down to Pacific and New Mexico."

HorseChief visited Pacific back in August and Eck said that trip was a major deciding factor in his decision.
"He liked the coaches, the players, it was a good program," Eck said. "Plus, the fact that they thought he was pretty good. It was great to have him come in on his first visit. It's nice to be wanted and they really showed it."
In addition to the Lobos, Dayton had been after HorseChief's services. During his freshman season, HorseChief averaged a little over eight points and five assist while guiding Redlands to a 27-and-4 record. Eck said he has grown about an inch and a half and will play at about 6-foot-3 this season.
"He is a longer point guard, he's got a nice shot, he's a good passer, can lead the team," said the coach. "He has some basketball savvy. Not the quickest player, can get the job done."
Eck has as many as four more Division One players on his roster, in addition to HorseChief and Ty Morrison, who committed to Missouri this week. However, he said the rest of the players will likely wait until the spring to make their decisions.
JucoJunction will continue to follow junior college recruiting across the land. To talk about this story with other juco hoops fans, check out the JucoJunction Board or our premium forum.
