Riley Signs; L.A. City Soph Update

Los Angeles City College won its second California state title under the direction of Head Coach Mike Miller, and perhaps the biggest cog in the wheel was 6-6 sophomore power forward Tyrone Riley.
Riley, a native of Long Beach, Calif., signed with the University of San Francisco this month, spurning overtures from Portland State and San Diego.

JUCO Junction confirmed this commitment with LACC Head Coach Mike Miller.
Riley averaged 13.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game for the Cubs in 2002-2003, shooting 52 percent from the field.
Riley will have two years of eligibility remaining at San Francisco.
Jaqay Carlyle, a 6-7 reserve sophomore forward from Riverside, Calif., has signed on to play at UC-Davis. UC-Davis is making the transition to the D-I ranks in 2004-2005, and will play one final season ('03-'04) at the D-II level.
A pair of other sophs -- 5-10 scoring point guard Jerel Blassingame and 6-4 swingman Wilbur Williams -- are still sorting out their options this spring, Miller said.
San Francisco, UNLV, Pittsburgh, UCLA and Miami (FL) have expressed interest in Blassingame, who averaged 11 points and 3.7 assists per game for LACC.
UMass, Kent State and Central Connecticut have inquired about Williams. The New York City native likes to leak out in transition and attack the basket.
We'll keep you posted on the final destinations of both Blassingame and Williams, so stay tuned to JUCO Junction for the latest information.
