Salukis Set Sights on Fort Scotts Brown

It's been a whirlwind month for the Southern Illinois basketball program, and the Salukis could get another big boost on the JUCO recruiting trail this weekend.
Southern Illinois is hosting 6-7 power forward Kelvin Brown of Fort Scott C.C. in Fort Scott, Kan.

JUCO Junction spoke with Fort Scott Head Coach Brette Tanner on Thursday night, and he confirmed that Brown will be on the Salukis' campus this weekend.
"I think he really likes Southern Illinois," Tanner said. "Nebraska came in little late and he is feeling them out right now."
"Southern Illinois has been recruiting him all year," Tanner continued. "They were the first school to call him and get involved."
After transferring in from South Florida, Brown enjoyed a terrific season for the Greyhounds. He averaged 22.2 points and 9.9 rebounds over 29 games for Fort Scott, earning first team All-Jayhawk East Conference honors.
"He's a man," Tanner said. "He gets things done because he plays hard all the time."
"He's about winning," the coach continued. "As long as we are winning, it doesn't matter to him [stats]. He's grown up a lot this year."
JUCO Junction caught Fort Scott in action back in December at the Jayhawk Shootout. We were impressed with how effective Brown was in running the floor and getting things done around the basket.
Brown could be the logical replacement for Southern Illinois senior forward Jermaine Dearman.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on Brown's situation this spring as the signing date approaches next month. Stay tuned.
