San Diego City has promise

San Diego City has been under the leadership of 3rd year coach Mitch Charlens. The Knights are currently (14-16) on the season with some promising sophomores getting some looks for next year. JucoJunction had a chance to touch base with assistant coach Jerome Sherman about the players' recruitment.
Ervin Dunson: (SO) 6-foot-7 (210) from Akron, OH. Dunson never played high school ball back at Akron Central HS. The combo forward more of a 4/3 man is a great athlete that's very long and plays above the rim.

"Ervin is a great on the ball defender that's so explosive on the floor," said assistant coach Jerome Sherman.
Dunson is averaging 9.7 ppg and 8.1 rebounds this season for the Knights. Long Beach State, Portland State, Idaho State and Sacramento State -(offered) are watching Ervin this spring.
Cornel Williams: (SO) 6-foot-6 (210) from San Diego, CA.
"Williams can jump out of the gym," said Sherman.
Cornel must work on his midrange game but the long athletic Williams can shoot the three ball some. Cornel for the season is leading the Knights in scoring at 14.6 ppg and 6.8 rebounds. The two year starter is hearing from Long Beach State, Portland State and Sacramento State. Williams must take care of some summer school work to move on.
David Kinder: (SO) 6-foot-8 (240) from San Diego, CA. The power forward who plays the center position with the Knights is a big body inside.
"David is a monster; he's very strong and athletic," said Sherman.
Kinder is a third year player that sat out last season. David is at 10 ppg and 6.4 rebounds. He must go the D2/NAIA route for next season.
Shawn Brooks: (SO) 5-foot-10 (200) from San Diego, CA. Brooks is a combo guard who is a third year player. Shawn played at San Diego Mesa College back in 2004-2005 and sat out last season.
"Shawn is a streaky shooter. When he gets on a role he's incredible," said Sherman.
Brooks is at 12.4 ppg this season for the Knights.
Emmen Preston and Jamel McGuire are two promising freshmen for the Knights to build on for next season. Preston is 6-foot-9 (230) from Connecticut. Preston is a 4/5 man that's very raw still playing the game. McGuire, 6-foot-4 (165) from San Diego, CA, was once a Fresno State signee a year ago. McGuire left California for Florida Prep in Lake Suzy, FL last season. McGuire is a combo guard that can really attack the basket with good overall quickness.
