Santa Fe Saints loaded with talent

One of the standout teams JucoJunction saw at the Tallahassee jamboree last weekend was Santa Fe Community College. The roster is dotted with Division One prospects that are already being heavily recruited.
6-foot-8 Gavin Horne, in fact, has already taken an official visit to Wright State. Reports are that the visit went well, but Horne may visit Mercer soon.

"Gavin is very a steady dependable player," said coach Chris Mowry. "You feel uncomfortable when he is not on the floor."
Horne averaged 8.8 points and 7.2 rebounds a game last season. Illinois State, Northeastern and St. Bonaventure are also recruiting him.
Point guard Tracy Rankins runs the show for Mowry.
"He can really get after you on defense," said the coach. "We are working on him to be more of a vocal leader this year."
Savannah State, St. Francis (NY) and Kennesaw State are recruiting Rankins.
Eric Lorenzi redshirted last season for at Embry-Riddle, so he will have three years of eligibility remaining. Lorenzi is very strong and has the versatility to play either forward spot.
"Eric is very versatile, he can really hold is own ground," Mowry said. "He has a very good skill level."
Stetson and Mercer are recruiting Lorenzi.
Another player who transferred in is Terrell Humphrey, who came over from St. John's River. Humphrey is a pure scorer and averaged 20 points per game in the 2004-05 season.
"Terrell is a really strong kid that is very athletic," Mowry said. "He can take you off the dribble - a really good scorer."
However, due to academics, it looks as if Humphrey will have to go the Division II route.
The final transfer is Illinois Central transplant Kyle Julius. He averaged 17 points per game last season and is capable of really filling it up.
"Kyle is not just a set shooter," Mowry said. "He comes off screens and can knock down shots."
Eastern Illinois is hoping to get Julius back near his home of Naperville.
A player to watch in the freshman class is 6-foot-7 Trayce Macon.
"He is a shot blocker who can add 15 or 20 pounds and he really understands the game," Mowry said.
Macon has a high skill level and is capable of shooting the ball out to three-point range.
We will get another look at Santa Fe on October 21st in Atlanta.
JucoJunction will have a rundown of all the talent in Tallahassee coming up in the next couple of days.
