Sawyer Takes WAC Trip; Will He Ink Early

Dante Sawyer, the versatile 6-5, 210 pound small forward from the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Id., took an official visit to Fresno State this past weekend.
In fact, Sawyer was on hand for the Bulldogs' nationally televised football game against Oregon State on Friday night.

Fresno's involvement with Sawyer shouldn't come as a surprise, since the coach that recruited Dante to CSI is now on the Bulldog basketball staff. Guy Beach left Southern Idaho in the summer to accept an assistant coaching position on Ray Lopes' staff.
JUCO Junction confirmed Sawyer's official visit to Fresno with CSI Asst. Coach Barret Peery.
"Fresno State will be Dante's only visit of the fall," Peery said. "If he signs early, it will be with Fresno. Otherwise, he'll wait until the spring to sign and take the rest of his trips after the basketball season."
Peery said that several coaches are expected to swing through Twin Falls and visit with Sawyer this fall. The NCAA fall evaluation period begins on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Oregon State, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are among the other colleges recruiting Sawyer.
A native of Oakland, Calif., Sawyer established himself as one of the top players in Region 18 last winter. He averaged 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for a team that finished 26-6. He earned Honorable Mention All-Region honors for the Golden Eagles.
JUCO Junction had a chance to watch Sawyer last March at the Region 18 Tournament in St. George. He's not only a high level athlete, but he's a pretty complete basketball player who does many things to help a team win.
We'll monitor Sawyer's recruitment as the fall signing period approaches in November, so keep it here for the top coverage of JC hoop recruiting on the net.
