Scottsdales Fontenet Awaits Offers

Someone out there on the Division I landscape could use a guy like Scottsdale (AZ) combo/shooting guard James Fontenet.
Fontenet, a 6-1, 180 pound transfer from New Mexico State, averaged 18.5 points per game and canned 81 treys during the 2003-2004 season.

Twice in February, he was named Arizona Community College and Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Then, at last Sunday's ACCAC Spring Showcase, he canned 11 three-pointers in an all-star game, according to SCC Head Coach Paul Eberhardt.
"UTEP is the frontrunner, but James doesn't have any offers yet," Eberhardt said. "He is going to need four hours in the summer to graduate."
In addition to Texas-El Paso, Oregon, Tulsa, Idaho State and Montana State are involved to some degree with Fontenet this spring, Eberhardt said.
Tulsa and Oregon are currently tussling to land Casper (WY) College combo guard Kenny Love, and the loser in that battle could conceivably turn its interest to Fontenet in the near future.
With the status of the 5/8 rule in serious peril, Fontenet could see a spate of offers in the coming days and weeks. We'll keep you posted on his situation as it continues to unfold this spring. Stay tuned!
