Scouting Ball Stars: Marvin Gentry

One of the top performers at BallStars (Texas) was Marvin Gentry, a 6 foot-4 180-pounder from McLennan Community College. Gentry had an excellent freshman season at McLennan, where he caught the eye of mid-major programs across the country. Expect for Gentry to be a new addition to JucoJunction's Top 65 sophomores when that list is complied in the fall.
Gentry is an athletic shooting guard, who uses his long arms to add to his versitile game. Besides being very athletic, Gentry also has a sweet stroke from three-point range. He can score off the dribble using his quickness and leaping ability to blow by defenders or jump over the top of them. Making him even more difficult to defen, is his ability to keep defenders off balance with his long range shooting ability.

This past weekend schools such as McNeese State, TCU, and North Texas monitored his progress. One can expect his list to get longer before it gets shorter. Many other mid-major programs will jump in on this explosive prospect. Southwest Hoops Report, who was present at the camp and lists Gentry as a mid-major recruit.
Before Gentry makes the jump to the next level, he does need to address one area, his lack of upper body strength. He does need to dedicate himself to the weight room to get stronger. Once he does that, Gentry will be able to improve himself and make him a more physical player, which could make him an upper mid major prospect.
JucoJunction is excited about following Marvin's progress, throughout the summer and fall. Gentry hopes to lead McLennan to the North Texas Conference title and a Region V title this season and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. Gentry's recruitment could get very hectic, as he continues his stellar play.
