Scouting special: Arbet eyes D1 return

With the improvement of individual skills, particularly in post men, over the last fifteen years, coaches see more and more face up four men who can do damage from the perimeter and the low post.  Eastfield College (TX) has such a young man in Jason Arbet.  Arbet is a 6-foot -9 235-pounder, who transfered this spring from NCAA Division I Texas Southern University. Arbet averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as a freshman.

Expect the Garland, Tex. native to return to the DI level for his final two years of play.  Arbet is best suited for play at the high post area.  He can shoot the ball very well from the 17-foot range, put the ball on the floor to create, or feed the low post.  These skills impressed the coaching staffs from Campbell University and McNeese State University, while playing at the BallStars (Texas) event.

Southwest Hoops Report rated Arbet a mid/low major prospect.  If he would spend more time banging on the low blocks, that rating could rise to a mid-major level.  Expect first year Eastfiled Head Coach Anthony Fletcher to prvide the necessary motivation to bring that out in Arbet.

Coach Fletcher, former assistant coach at McLennan Community College, is one of the hot young coaches in juco basketball.  The hard-working and personable coach has a bright future ahead of him.  As Fletcher and his players at Eastfield aim for a Metro Athletic Conference and a bid in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament, Jason Arbet aims for a return to Division I basketball.  JucoJunction will be there to follow these journeys.
