Scouting special: Show-Me point guard is solid

Coaches tend to gravitate to point guards that understand how to run the show and get others involved. One of the top juco point guards this year will be Tyrone Brazelton, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, from Southwest Missouri State-West Plains.
Brazelton, a native of Olympia Fields, Ill., had an outstanding freshman year for the Grizzlies. He averaged 11 points per game and five assists to go with 3.7 boards. He was named to the NJCAA Region 16 team.

Brazelton is very quick with the ball. He can really push it on the break or get by defenders with dribble penetration. Also, he is a very good ball handler and passer, and he gets his other teammates involved. He uses his quickness very well on the defensive end, too. He can be a very pesky defender on the ball. He uses his quick hands to get numerous steals and/or defelections.
He is a good shooter, not a great one from three-point range. Defenders must respect him though; they can not just back off of him. He is very good at penetrating and shooting the pull-up mid-range jumper. Brazelton is also a vocal leader that coaches like. He understands and accepts that he is an extension of the coaching staff on the floor.
Southwest Hoops Report rated him a mid major point guard. Because of where he is from, one might be able to picture him in a Missouri Valley uniform next season. Brazelton and the Grizzlies hope to lead Head Coach Brian Osterman to the Region 16 title and a berth in the national tourney. JucoJunction will be there to see if the Grizzles make it.
JucoJunction will continue to follow junior college recruiting across the land. To talk about this story with other juco hoops fans, check out the JucoJunction Board or our premium forum.
