Smith commits to USF

Lee Junior College (Tx) shooting guard Shawn Smith verbally pledged to South Florida today following his official visit to Tampa this weekend.
Smith took his one and only official visit to USF after a recruitment that began in the early in the fall semester and picked up steam in January. Smith, a Jacksonville native, chose Florida over interest from Marquette, TCU, LSU, Alabama, Utah, Florida State and Louisville. News of Smith's official visit first broke on RunningTheBulls.com Saturday evening.

As the fourth member of the class of 2015, Smith fills a spot once held by fellow Junior College player Luis Montero who has transferred to a new school and reclassified to the class of 2016.
Smith averaged 15 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Lee College while shooting 42.6 percent from the floor -- including 39.8 percent above the arc -- in just 14 minutes of playing time per game. He's expected to provide another, and much needed, scorer next season.
Smith will have two seasons of eligibility beginning next fall.
