Fred Mattison played his freshman season at Kilgore College in Texas. Mattison a power forward resurfaced this past off season to the Flint, Mich. school to meet up with his cousin.
The Anderson, S.C., native has the Bears currently the number 1 team in the NJCAA Division 2 ranks right now. The Bears won the NJCAA last season and three others times in the past back in 2003, 2007 and 2008 all under Schmidt.
Mattison signed with Winthrop University out of high school and played AAU basketball with the South Carolina Ravens. Mattison is currently averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds per game this season for the Bears on the young season. Mattison has connected on 59 percent (38-64) of his shots from the floor.
Mattison is ranked No. 95 in the 2013 JucoJunction Top 150.
