Southeastern a popular recruiting stop again

NCAA Division I coaches know the way to West Burlington, IA.  West Burlington is the home of Southeastern Community College, NJCAA National Champions in 2000, 2003, and 2004.  This season, many coaches will travel there to evaluate Courtney Horton, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard.  Horton is a native of Chicago, IL.

"There hasn't been anybody in yet, but people are getting set up to come in," said Southeastern coach Tim Walsh. "Loyola University in Chicago is coming in in the next week or so. He's getting interest from Western Illinois, St. Bonaventure, Ball State. Loyola has been the most active participant because he is from Chicago."
Horton, who averaged eight points per game as a freshman, is a very athletic point guard.  He is an excellent penetrator who can get into the lane and score with the pull up jump shot.  He also can penetrate and distribute to others.  His versatility is one thing college coaches will love.
"In high school, he played all five positions, so he's used to playing some different spots," Walsh said. "On the day I was there, we came to see him as a point guard, he played the five. It came down to a tight ballgame at the end, they put him at the point. Last year, he was one of our best, if not our best, on the ball defenders."

Southwest Hoops Report rates him as a mid-low major prospect.  But he is not Southeastern Iowa's most heavily recruited player.
"Terrance Carter, a 6-5, three-four guy, he's getting the moste interest of anybody," Walsh said. "The biggest thing is his toughness, and just heart. He's very athletic, especially as a four man, but he's athletic enough he can guard guards on the floor, but can go inside and score. He's hard to guard. He's become a much better player. His biggest priority I had for him was to work on his ball skills and perimeter shooting. He's come back and done that and that's the type of kid he is. He's a great leader, outstanding leader. He's going to lead this team to great things just due to him. That's infectious, that's contagious, that's gonna make us a better basketball team."
Carter has already visited New Mexico State. San Francisco, Illinois State, New Mexico and James Madison have also shown interest.
All of the Black Hawk players will sign late.
