Southeastern IA Program Update

Bret Swanson of Swanny's Review in Illinois recently caught up with new Southeastern (IA) C.C. Head Coach Tim Walsh for the latest on the Black Hawk sophomores.
Combo guard Marvett McDonald, a 6-1 native of Memphis, Tenn., signed with Alabama-Birmingham on Wednesday. He picked the Blazers over Northern Illinois.

Back at the NJCAA Tournament last month, McDonald told us he would take official visits to both NIU and UAB. The Blazers had been on McDonald since the end of his freshman year at SCC.
McDonald averaged 13.4 points and 3.4 assists per game as a sophomore. In his two-year career at Southeastern, he knocked down 157 three-pointers.
For a complete account of McDonald's decision, please check out this story by Susan Denk that was published in Thursday's edition of The Hawkeye.
Ivan Almonte, the rugged 6-6 sophomore forward from the Domincan Republic, was recently released from his letter of intent to Texas El Paso. Walsh told Swanson that Almonte is visiting Florida International this weekend (Apr. 23-25).
That should come as little surprise, since former UTEP Asst. Coach Sergio Rouco was recently named the head coach at FIU.
A pair of other sophomore forwards -- 6-8 Eliz Cepeda and 6-6 Benito Flores -- visited Toledo University last weekend (Apr. 16-18).
Flores is considering Wisconsin Green Bay in addition to Toledo. Cepeda's only visit thus far has been to Toledo.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on all of the Southeastern players as they sort out their options this spring. Stay tuned!
