Southeastern Illinois is loaded once again

Southeastern Illinois head coach Todd Franklin is no stranger to success, including a 34-2 campaign in 2002-03 that finished just shy of a national championship. With the 2003-04 season just a few weeks, away, it looks like Franklin’s club will again be loaded with talent.
- Sammy Hunter, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo-guard’

“Sammy can play the one or the two,” said coach Franklin. “He has good size, he’s a good shooter and he’s a good defender. He can guard multiple positions. He can guard the little bitty point guards or he can even guard a 6-5 or 6-6 guy because he’s a pretty tough kid.”
Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas Little Rock and just about every school in the Ohio Valley Conference have been calling on Hunter.
- Chris Ames, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard;
“I guess he’s the highest rated guy we’ve got. He’s just a really, really good athlete,” Franklin said. “And he’s really tough. He takes it to the rim very hard, he’s good defensively and his skill level has improved by leaps and bounds.”
Southern Miss and Mississippi State have been inquiring about Ames.
- Tyrone Davidson, a 6-foot-6, 212-pound power forward;
“He’s a really skilled four. He jumps well, shoots it well. He’s a good athlete but probably his biggest strength is that he can really shoot it,” said coach Franklin.
Illinois State, Southern Illinois and Tennessee Martin are a few of the schools that are interested in Davidson.
- Kwen Trice, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound point guard;
“He’s a lefty … just a great shooter,” Franklin said. “He’s been contacted by a lot of mids. I think a lot of people are a little worried about his size but he’s good, he can shoot the ball.”
- Richard Andrews, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard.
“He’s similar to Ames. He’s really tough, athletic and can really guard you,” said Franklin. “He’s from Jamaica and he’s a little bit older. So it will be a matter of whether somebody will appeal (the age rule).”
