Stamper a Mid-Major Prize; Independence Update

J'son Stamper, a rugged 6-5, 230 pound power forward from Independence C.C. in Independence, Kan., has emerged as a prime mid-major recruiting target this fall.
JUCO Junction caught up with Indy Head Coach Steve Lilly recently, and he filled us in on Stamper's early recruitment.

Lilly said that Middle Tennessee State, St. Bonaventure, Marshall, Southern Illinois, New Orleans and Long Beach State have contacted him regarding Stamper.
A native of New York City, Stamper is an undersized power player who does most of his damage inside of six feet. To illustrate that point, Stamper averaged 14.7 points and 10.8 rebounds per game last winter for the Pirates.
Another East Coast product expected to do damage for Independence this winter is 6-2 guard Kevin Jeffreys of Bridgeport, Conn.
The 2003-2004 season will be Jeffreys' second go around in the Jayhawk Conference. He last played at Neosho County C.C. in 2000-2001. Because his clock started three years ago, Jeffreys' recruitment will be confined to the Division II/NAIA level.
"Kevin is very explosive," Lilly noted. "He's an OK shooter, kind of a streaky shooter, but he can defend and score in a variety of ways."
JUCO Junction plans on catching both Jeffreys, Stamper and the Indy squad in action at next month's Jayhawk Shootout, so keep it tuned here for the top coverage of JC basketball action throughout the winter months.
