Stephens stays west

The Junior College basketball season starts tonight everywhere except in California. The California Community Colleges will wait until the end of the week to get there regular season. Deshawn Stephens de-committed from Utah State University a week ago and decided to go down the California coast to San Diego State University. Stephens will have two years to play for the Aztecs after leaving Santa Monica College.

The power forward averaged 7.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game last season for the Corsairs. Stephens shot 59 percent from the floor.

Stephens received strong interest from Hawaii and Long Beach State also this fall before deciding on the Aztecs.
