SW Illinois Big Wings Sign Letters

Southwest Illinois C.C. of Belleville, Ill., had no shortage of height on the wing thanks to 6-5 freshman swingman Troy Slaten and 6-6 sophomore swingman Ryan Heck.
But the Blue Storm is losing both players to the Division I ranks this spring.

Slaten, a 185 pound shooting guard/small forward from St. Louis, Mo., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Arkansas State.
As a freshman qualifier, Slaten will have three years to play for Dickey Nutt's Indian program.
Heck, a lanky 185 pounder from Okawville, Ill., signed with Troy State. He picked the Trojans after interest from programs like Missouri-Kansas City, Austin Peay, Maine, St. Bonaventure and Chicago State.
"Troy State is losing a lot of players at my position, but they have strong nucleus returning and a chance to go back to the NCAA Tournament," Heck said.
This past season, Heck averaged 16 points a game for a 16-13 squad that was eliminated in the Region 24 Tournament semis.
He said he will play both the two and three positions at Troy State.
Keep it tuned to JUCO Junction for the latest commitments in the JC Class of 2003 and beyond!
