Temple guard putting up big numbers

The Temple College Leopards are off to a 2-and-0 start in 2004 in no small part to their smallest player. 5-foot-9 point guard Dekyron Nix is leading the way for the Leopards averaging 18.5 points and 14 assists per game in the first two contests.
And despite that start, which followed a solid freshman season when Nix was third in the nation in assists according to his coach, not many Division One schools are taking notice.

“He's an unknown,” said Temple coach Kirby Johnson. “I think the only think holding him back is he's not 6-2. But I wouldn't trade him for somebody.”
Nix has started every game of his career so far at Temple. And he's no stranger to big-time competition.
“When he was a sophomore in high school, he played in the state 5A championship game, the biggest class in Texas,” Johnson said. “He was starting against T.J. Ford.”
“He had 12 points and six or eight assists in that game. If you're a sophomore in that game against a guy like T.J. Ford, that's pretty good.”
Pretty good doesn't yet have Nix's name popping up on recruiting radars across the country. But if he continues at his current torrid pace, it may not take long.
