Texas Talk: Gentry makes a choice

This week was highlighted by some matchups between some of the top teams in all three leagues. On Monday night, #1 Howard defeated #15 Midland 65-53 in a thriller to remain undefeated. On Wednesday evening Lon Morris beat Tyler 85-75, as Chuma Awaji continued his excellent play for Lon Morris with 23 points. Tyrone Scott led Tyler with 24 points. In addition, on Wednesday night, Angelina defeated Panola 91-80. Chip Cartwright had an outstanding all around game with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Marvin Kilgore led Panola with 25 points. Also, on Wednesday night, Weatherford beat Grayson 58-53 to hand Grayson their first conference defeat 58-53. On Saturday, McLennan rocked Southwest Christian 92-58, behind Marvin Gentry and Marlon Vincent's 20 points. Southwest Christian was led by Sheldon Stoker with 12 points. The win kept McLennan undefeated in conference play at 5-0. Also, on Saturday, Angelina came up with a huge win to defeat #17 Paris in overtime 89-84. Jonus Brown led Angelina with 31 points and Brian Burell led Paris with 20 points.

The explosive 6 foot-3 2 Guard from Philadelphia, PA, by way of East Carolina University went off for 25 points in the Ponies 91-80 loss on Wednesday night to Angelina. He turned around on Saturday and scored 24 points in a 95-68 victory over Navarro. Kilgore is receiving attention from Upper Mid major programs throughout the U.S.
RECRUITING UPDATE
McLennan Community College 2 guard Marvin Gentry has committed to Texas Christian University. The Ft. Worth native will return home to give the Horned Frogs some needed offensive punch from the perimeter.
