Top 100 player signs from Monroe

Monroe College in the Bronx, NY had a great season. The Mustangs sent another to the Division One level yesterday. JucoJunction touched base with Mustangs assistant coach Brock Erickson and he gave us the heads up on this signing.

Charles Funches, (SO) 6-foot-8 (200) from Bayonne, NJ, will head down to Hampton University next season after signing yesterday with the MEAC Conference school according to coach Erickson. Funches received interest from Fordham, Iona and Northern Illinois before deciding on Hampton University. Funches averaged 8 ppg and 5 rebounds this season for the Mustangs. Funches started his college career at Paris Junior College in Paris,TX.

"Charles is a long and lanky finesse forward who has legit range out to 18 feet on his jumper," said JucoJuction staff analyst Bret Swanson.

Funches now joins Tyvon Williams (South Carolina State), Kyle Wright (Providence), Freddy Obame (Maryland-Eastern Shore) and Westly Perryman (Boise State) in signing with Division One programs for next fall. Funches is ranked #80 in the JucoJunction Top 150.
