Two have D1 shot at Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach Community College had six players score in double figures this season. Point guard Bennie Washington wasn't one of them, but his skills are getting him some Division One interest.
"He's probably much more talented than he showed this year," said DBCC coach Brad Underwood. "I thought he had a great year. He had to learn to play the point when he got here. He was a real scoring point that I basically didn't need him to score a bunch. He had to change roles."

Underwood said Washington made the transition well.
"He developed into a good halfcourt player," the coach said. "He can run the offense, he's very good shooter. We didn't need him to score a lot, we had six guys in double figures, but he can really shoot it. He's a very, very solid point guard."
Washington will trip to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend and is getting heavy interest from Cornell out of the Ivy League.
"He's also got a couple of West coast schools interested," Underwood said. "But I don't know how interested he is in going west. He's got some Division II schools interested too, but I think he'd like to go to the Division One level and he is a Division One player."
Jack Jenkins was anticipated to be a Division One player as well. However, outside issues have put Jenkins' career on hold.
"Jack has had an extreme situation develop in his family and his school is on hold basically," Underwood explained. "It's a very tragic situation in his home so we are still evaluating what his status will be. He was a Division One transfer so he's got to graduate. He had quite a few credits and we want to make sure and see if he can get back here or pick something else in the summer. But it's just a situation he can't get away from and things are on hold."
