UAB Picks Up Big Man Lewis

Alabama-Birmingham has picked up 6-8, 260 pound power forward Marques Lewis of Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill.
JUCO Junction caught up with WVC Head Coach Mark Nelson on Thursday night, and he said that Lewis picked the Blazers after taking spring trips to Arkansas State and UAB.

"Marques could play for a lot of people," Nelson said. "Coach [Scott] Edgar did a great job of recruiting him and showed a lot of interest in him. UAB had a good year, they're going to get better and they have a need for him."
Lewis, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., spent his freshman year at SMS-West Plains prior to transferring into Wabash Valley.
He averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Warriors in 2002-2003. Wabash Valley reached the Region 24 title game, losing to eventual seventh place NJCAA finisher Southeastern Illinois College.
"He's a skilled guy," Nelson said. "His biggest attribute are his hands -- he can really catch the ball and find ways to score."
Lewis will need two courses this summer to finish up his degree requirements at Wabash Valley. He will have two years of eligibility at UAB starting in the fall.
