Wabbington Has Mountain West Trip on Tap

Derek Wabbington, a 6-9, 235 pound power forward/center from Northeastern J.C. in Sterling, Colo., will take his second official visit of the fall next weekend.
JUCO Junction caught up with NJC Head Coach Brian Joyce this week, and he told us that Wabbington will be at Wyoming next weekend (Oct. 11-13).

Last weekend (Sept. 26-28), Wabbington visited Boise State.
"Derek is in the process of finalizing his plans to visit Wyoming," Joyce said. "Coach McClain has been in to see Derek already. They really like him."
Joyce said that Wyoming and Boise have both offered Wabbington, a native of Phoenix, Ariz.
Wabbington put up respectable numbers for the Plainsmen in 2002-2003. Joyce is expecting even bigger things from Wabbington in 2003-2004.
"Derek is a big, strong lefty who can rebound, plus he's very skilled," Joyce said. "He's an average athlete, but he is so skilled for his size that a lot of people will recruit him."
Wabbington signed with the University of Denver out of high school, but failed to qualify academically. With a strong summer (he'll be at Mullen's in July) and good sophomore year at NJC, it's likely that he will have the chance to sign higher than that in the spring.
JUCO Junction will keep you abreast on Wabbington and other top post players in the JC Class of 2004 as the fall signing period approaches, so stay tuned.
