Will Iowa Make a Move on Southeasterns Thomas

It remains to be seen whether or not Iowa will make a move on Doug Thomas, a 6-8, 240 pound center/power forward from Southeastern C.C. in West Burlington, Ia.
Thomas committed to Iowa a year and a half ago as a senior in high school at Christian Faith Center in Creedmor, N.C.

However, back in the spring at SCC, Thomas was arrested for possession of marijuana. The incident cast the Hawkeyes' interest in Thomas into doubt. Last fall, the Iowa basketball program dealt with a number of off the court issues.
"Iowa hasn't offered Doug a scholarship, but they are still very interested in him," SCC Head Coach Joe O'Brien said. "I've talked with their staff and they understand my wishes that my kids sign late."
"Doug has made tremendous strides in a year here," O'Brien continued. "He would like to be a Hawkeye, and he has unofficially visited Iowa for football games."
Many factors could determine whether or not Iowa ultimately offers and signs Thomas, who hails from Inglewood, Calif. Of course, Thomas will need to stay out of trouble this year at Southeastern and show academic progress towards his associates degree.
Should the Hawkeyes sign other high school or junior college big men this fall, that could also knock them out of the box with Thomas. Iowa has been seriously linked with 6-8 South Plains forward Robert Faulkner this fall.
Thomas, a powerful interior player known for thunderous dunks, averaged 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in 2002-2003 for the Blackhawks. He shot 55 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the foul line.
We'll keep you posted on Thomas' situation as the JC hoop season approaches. Stay tuned.
